Exclusive Interview: DreCost

Sonus Magazine presents an exclusive interview with Toronto Rap, Rock and R&B artist, DreCost! After our interview, check out their socials links and creative works!

1 . What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

Since I could remember music was my standout hobby. Weather it was being in a school choir or preforming at family events or even singing competitions I was the first one to want to do it. So, it was second nature for me to start recording and developing a career in music early.

2. What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

Honestly nowadays most of the artists my age aren’t doing music for the music and the game is over crowded with non-talented “SoundCloud rappers”, at first I was looked at like that but then people started listening and they loved it because they could see my investment in the production and my passion for music. They see I can control my voice for multiple genres of music.

3. How would you describe the music that you typically create?

My music could be described as diverse. I have a song for any emotion or feeling someone’s going through. Because I use my music as therapy for my emotions as well. Everything that goes into the microphone and out of the speakers is real.

4. Do you prefer the Independent route, or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?

When the opportunity arises, I will sign to the right label because I can use all of their tools to the max capacity. I don’t mind the cut that the label gets because they need to see a return on their investment on me. As soon as the contract is over if I’m at the place in my life I want to be I may go independent again.

5. Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

I believe “So Bad” is the best song I’ve released so far because it’s the most diverse song I’ve published and the message behind it is something everyone needs to hear.

6. Who would you most like to collaborate with, whether it’s an artist, DJ or Producer? Why?

If I was to collaborate with a producer it would definitely be Nick Mira and Travis barker. If I were to collaborate with an artist it would be Juice WRLD or Tupac Shakur if they were living right now, I would have to say Tory Lanez or Yung Pinch.

7. Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

I think every artist knows preforming on stage is one of the biggest events in your career and it’s a massive adrenaline rush. Connecting with people who all share love for something is a feeling like no other. Preforming definitely takes it.

8. During your entire journey through the music business, what would you consider your Worst experience?

I’m very early in my journey but so far it was definitely a massive performance falling through due Covid-19.

9. What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

Recording my first song. There are way bigger things I could say but this was just more personal to me.

  1. If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Well I would open for Drake obviously; it would be a future Canadian icon opening for a current Canadian icon.

  1. What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?

If I’m being honest about what inspires me the most about the music industry, I would say not much, only the artists that continue to keep it real and stay away from the gimmicks as much as possible.

  1. How would you describe your creative process when making a song?

If I was to describe my creative process when I am making a song it would be having an instrumental that flows with the vibe you’re going for, make sure you know exactly what the vibe of the song is going for and let your thoughts take over.

  1. In your own opinion, what is the current music scene like in your local area?

In my own opinion, talented artist sprinkled throughout, but none of them can find their own style and wave.

  1. What is your latest release and where fans can find it?

It would be “So Bad” and you can stream it on all platforms.

  1. What can fans expect to see from you in the coming months or even years?

What fans can expect to see from me in the coming months and years are better songs, bigger shows, bigger features overall bigger and better everything.
