Exclusive Interview: Saucy Mike

Sonus Magazine presents an exclusive interview with Manchester, New Jersey upcoming Hip-Hop and Rap artist, Saucy Mike. After our interview, check out their socials links and creative works!

1. What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

I’ve always been into music & writing, so one day I decided to put that together. Making music also gives you a platform to express how you feel or experiences that you’ve had, so I take advantage of that. It feels almost therapeutic to me to be able to talk about how I’m feeling or what goes through my mind and turn it into something I could sit & listen to and enjoy, and it makes me feel good when other people enjoy it.

2. What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

The thing that I feel makes me stand out from other aspiring & upcoming artists is my versatility & the impact that I leave on the listener. I want people to see what I can really bring into the game. I feel my sound differs from many artists in my area.

3. How would you describe the music that you typically create?

It honestly depends on my mood. It could be vibey, melodic, or dark trap. I try to create flows that will really catch someones ear & get stuck in their head, while at the same time giving people feelings they could relate to & connect with so that they come back to listen to more. Sometimes the topics of the songs tend to get dark, which I hope could be an outlet for other people going through the same thing to connect & relate to it. My goal is to really reach out to the listener through the music & give them something to grab onto.

4. What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?

I think the biggest advantage of being an independent artist is that I could really do things how I want. I could release whenever I feel like it, & just handle things by myself. But the biggest disadvantage I say would be having that experienced team around you. I know with getting signed comes a team of experienced, well connected people, which could really be a help sometimes.

5. Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?

For me I’m honestly just going with the flow for now. I’m still very young & still discovering my true sound so it is nice to have that freedom, but one day I would definitely love to be signed to a major record label.

6. Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

I think my best song is “Daydreams” because it really taps into my thoughts & shares what goes on in my head. It is the type of song that you could turn up to if you’re in the mood, but also lay down & just vibe to it.

7. Who would you most like to collaborate with, whether its an artist, DJ or Producer? Why?

My dream would be to collaborate with Travis Scott. I think we would sound very well together & could make some great music. I’m a huge fan of his sound and movement with Cactus Jack and him helping to build the artists that are in it like Don Toliver & Sheck Wes. Travis just leaves a huge impact on any person or thing he is around and it is so inspiring to me.

8. Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

I enjoy creating in the studio more because I could let all my creativity out & just make music and enjoy myself. I consider the studio as my happy place.

9. During your entire journey through the music business, what would you consider your Worst experience?

My worst experience was probably not being smart with my money. You need to be smart with how much you spend & what you put it into, and getting started in the industry there were times where I dropped a bag on pointless things and was out of money for a while. I know better now.

10. What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

The proudest moment in my career so far was being complimented by a huge artist that is big in the game right now. He reached out to tell me that he loved my music & wanted to hear more so I was happy about that.

11. If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

If I could open a show for anyone it would be Travis Scott, hands down. His fanbase is the type of fanbase I want listening to my music. Everybody is a die hard rager & gets so hyped at his concerts. That’s the energy I need around me.

12. What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?

What inspires me the most about the music industry these days is the fans. Having people around you and supporting you, always waiting for the next drop is huge to me. I want to be able to give back to everyone who supports me one day.

13. How would you describe your creative process when making a song?

My process could be very complicated to some but when you do it alot it becomes really easy. First I find beats and usually freestyle to them and I’ll pull out my phone and record them on my camera roll. Then I figure out flows and put it on GarageBand on my phone & figure out autotune keys from there. Then I screen record flows that sound good and then implement lyrics into it. Then I’m in the studio with it!

14. In your own opinion, What is the current music scene like in your local area?

There are alot of artists in my area & sadly it’s split up. I have my people and we work together & try to build eachother up to the top, then there’s other people on the opposite side who just try to tear you down to bring attention to their name. But regardless I’m still doing my thing and putting in work to put my town on the map. I’m grateful for the artists I work with.

15. What is your latest release and where fans can find it?

My latest release is called “Switch”. You could find it on all platforms under Saucy Mike!

16. What what can fans expect to see from you in the coming months or even years?

I hope to be working with big artists, and you can expect to see lot’s of new music & music videos out from me. I can’t wait to continue this journey & see where it takes me!
