Exclusive Interview: Spooky

Sonus Magazine returns to bring you an exclusive magazine interview with up and coming Rhode Island based artist Spooky! After this interview, be sure to check out the artist and their social links to hear and learn more about them!

1. What made you decide to jump into the music industry and commit to music as you’re calling?

Honestly Famous Dex, he’s my inspiration for real. He made me want to hop on energetic beats and make the sound I have today, but I’m inspired by Travis Scott, Trippie Redd, and PlayboiCarti.

2. What do you think makes you stand out from the millions of other aspiring artists?

The way I record and confidently express myself through my art can’t be replicated. it’s like you have to know when you’re doing something different and that’s within you, you know?

3. How would you describe the music that you typically put out? What makes that sound different that allows it to break through the noise of other artists’ music?

My music is a beautiful nightmare. It’s like I’m rapping about trauma and violence but in a beautiful way. from my adlibs to my main vocals, and my ghost adlibs…they make the tracks sound “Jolie Laide”. That’s a word for ugly yet beautiful.

4. What would you do differently if you could go back to when you first started making music if you had the knowledge you’ve gained now?

Damn I would definitely go back and tell mini-me to invest in marketing and how to do it. because I was working at a shitty job making eight dollars and hour at Burger King.

5. How often do you work with other promotional pages to market your music even further? Would you recommend any to other artists who may be reading?

I work with them everyday it’s my job now, so I’d tell y’all to invest in HyperCloudMedia and Sonus Magazine.

6. What kind of bad experiences have you had as an artist and which would you consider your worst?

Definitely people not being who they say they are in the industry it’s like high school you got the popular ones who aren’t that cool in person and the not so popular people being the most interesting people you’ve met.

7. What are some artists or creatives you would like to collaborate with most, whether it’s an Artist, DJ, Producer, videographer or photographer, etc and why?

Definitely PlayboiCarti, Trippie, and Travis. I feel as if they’d understand how my creative process works and they’ll definitely like the finished product of any track we make together.

8. What promotional strategies have had a trend to work best for you as an artist so far?

Definitely being consistent with what I do and engaging with my audience as much as possible.

9. If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Carti, Carti, Carti. Need I say more?

10. Out of all the artists you’ve worked with, which collaboration yielded the most success?

Working with Fiji Macintosh. He’s a good artist and reminds me of me when it comes to making a track and dropping.

11. How did you come up with your stage name? What are some other stage name ideas you had before you came to your current one?

Not gonna lie it was because of my 2023 EP “A Kid Named Spooky” it made me decide to change my name from Carixonti to Spooky. I had other names such as “Jon.G” and “Skullgodsbones”, but I thought “Spooky” was interesting only because of how scary people say I look now.

12. Any tips about trends going on currently in the industry that your fellow artist can or should take advantage of?

Real shit, I don’t follow trends. Most people say post on TikTok but that’s lame to me now.

13. Which of your songs within your discography would you consider your favorite or best song? What about possibly your worst song?

My best song out right now has got to be “Murder Musik”. It’s a vibe to me honestly, I don’t have a worst song in my opinion.

14. Any plans for the future you wanna tell the reader?

Be prepared for the unexpected. I have ideas that can’t be shared as of now.

15. If there was an era of music within your genre that you could call your favorite (“Soundcloud Era”, “Gangster Rap Era”, etc”) what would it be and why?

Soundcloud era all the way. we had a verity of artists out with different sounds. From X (XXXTENTACION) to Lil Pump. It was a time to remember forever.

16. Do you have a final sign off message for your fans and potential new fans you will reach with this article? If so, drop it down below.

I love you all for taking your time out the day to give me a chance. I appreciate the commitment and willingness to help spread awareness of me. And most importantly keep being inspired.
