Toronto’s underground continues to prove it’s one of the most unpredictable breeding grounds for next-gen talent. KOMBO is stepping into that conversation loudly. No industry polish. Raw momentum accompanied by a real grind, and a co-sign moment with Sofaygo that will alter his career trajectory. With the release of “Grimy” he proves what it takes to rise when luck gets involved.
“My process was kinda crazy,” he explains. “I pretty much lost my voice after packing people on Discord to get clips off of them (I was bored). I started punching in a bunch of songs after hopping on FL. I found this one beat that I really liked. I went to work and let my raspy voice compliment it”.
(For those unfamiliar, Discord packing was/is a phenomenon born out of the pandemic era where your mic is turned up to and beyond peaking levels. This is to attain distorted or hyper-sensitive/clear vocals. Basically, fork scratching a plate but with voices, sound effects, jokes and insults, and more.)
The rasp isn’t a gimmick — it’s the texture that gives the track its edge. Instead of waiting to recover, KOMBO leaned into the damage. The result? A performance that sounds urgent, hungry, and unfiltered. There’s a natural aggression in his delivery, but it’s controlled. Intentional.
He credits his creative spark as of late to a recent trip to New York Fashion Week. There, he connected with breakout artist 2Slimey and budding artist boolymon. The energy from that environment translated directly into the booth. “I still had the energy in me from New York Fashion Week. I channeled it into the song. Then, boom, I made a hit.” That same momentum led to one of the most surreal moments of his career. He linked up with Sofaygo. Faygo is an artist he once supported as a fan years before.
“Meeting Faygo was insane. At a certain point in time, I remember singing his songs. I was also a mod in his Discord server back in 2021.” That full-circle moment turned into more than just a photo op. Sofaygo volunteered to appear in KOMBO’s Triller clip. This move speaks volumes about an artist at his place in the game.
“I’m honestly glad Sofaygo volunteered to be a part of my Triller.” He’s really contributing a lot. He is giving back to his fans”. SoFaygo showed good character. He was also reported to be quite friendly and interactive with fans at the Libertine Mania Afterparty hosted by Banity.
The cameo isn’t forced, It feels natural. They resonate not only as a fan and a world renowned artist but as two equal artists side by side. They resonated to create art out of passion. “Being around people like Faygo really puts my mind in the zone. It makes me feel like I can achieve what he can if I try hard enough.”
A raw SoundCloud drop is already building traction. A Triller moment is circulating online. KOMBO is proving that Toronto’s next wave isn’t waiting for permission or approval. Hes forging his name in the game by sheer tenacity and will.
